Mobilicity

This webpage highlights the work I did with Mobilicity from 2011 to 2012.

Mobilicity was a new entrant to the telecommunications industry to compete with Rogers, Bell and Telus to lower cell phone and service prices. Mobilicity operated in five markets across Canada: Toronto, Ottawa, Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

My position at Mobilicity focused on media relations and consumer outreach. This included the drafting and distribution of press releases, media monitoring (using MRP) and writing and managing an “App of the Week” feature for social media. I was given the opportunity to create relationships with key technology writers and bloggers as I managed a device review program for media interested in reviewing Mobilicity products and service. In addition, I assisted with the development and management of promotional websites including the CEO blogger contest and Back to School blogs. I also assessed and fulfilled charitable requests that were compliant with Mobilicity’s corporate social responsibility program, which included in-kind donations.

Media Relations

A large part of my role focused on media relations. I created and pitched news releases and potential stories to national and local market media. In addition to this, I would create and distribute news clipping reports, maintain and update the media list, and manage the device review program for media and bloggers/influencers for written reviews of phones and service. Please see below a sample of news releases:

Social Media

On Mobilicity’s Facebook page and Twitter feed, we would feature an “App of the Week” promoting apps that could be used on Mobilicity phones. App suggestions would come from staff. I would review and test the apps, write a short review and then post on our Facebook page. Please see below a screenshot of how it appeared on the Facebook page:

Additional Work

Some additional items that I do not have portfolio items for but are worth highlighting include:

  • I assisted with the creation and management of promotional websites including CEO blogger contest and Back to School blogs. The CEO blogger contest followed Mobilicity’s CEO, contest winner and key staff on a road trip across Canada comparing Mobilicity’s phones and service to one of the “Big 3.” The Back to School blog followed a student in each market as they used Mobilicity’s phones and service during Frosh week and their first year.
  • I assessed and fulfilled charitable requests that were compliant with Mobilicity’s corporate social responsibility program, including in-kind donations.
